In May Latin Percussion launched their Americana range of cajons. Made entirely in the US they are made from hand-selected, 11-ply, plantation grown Baltic Birch, chosen for its superior durability and incredible resonance.
They come in a choice of three models. A string style made with custom-designed D’Addario® strings, a Snare Style model with Puresound® Custom Pro brass snare wires, and a traditional Peruvian model which has a hand-selected exotic African okoume wood front plate.
I particularity like the string style version as it has all the right punch with a fantastic slap which has almost a conga like tone to it. It is also great for foot pitch changes.
LP have always maintained at top level of production and the Mario Cortes is a also a fantastic instrument. By the looks of things the Americana range are some of the best cajons made by a major percussion company like LP. It is a far cry and a big step up from the what other major company’s spit out in the way of cajons.
